Thursday marked the end of an era for movie-goers in Chittenden County. The Palace 9 on Shelburne Road in South Burlington scheduled its closure following the evening's shows. Owner Merrill Jarvis III told NBC5 News his audiences had been coming back to the theater since the pandemic shutdown, but not in numbers large enough that made sense to keep operating past his current lease — especially not with more and more people watching movies on home streaming services these days.
