I keep reading the limited amount of outlets in the room and the suggestion of bringing something to increase the usage such as mini- power strips. Not sure if this is allowed. But if it is, I have a cube power box with multiple usb slots that can help power our muliple phones and tablets without taking up a lot of outlet space. It does require a USA 3 prong plug. Anything resembling an extension cord will be confiscated, and if your cube looks like the second one pictured here, it will probably be confiscated when you board.. RCL suites use a tower like the first one pictured, and we always pack one when we cruise, since they are allowed. That device is actually dangerous on a ship because it has surge protection. I don't know all the details, but chengkp75 has described the reason. In agreement with time4u2go. That being said, it can be used on land just about anywhere in the world. Looking at the description on amazon, it says it is cruise friendly, but I am not certain I believe it.

Hi cruisers: have seen photos of this many times but now since Ive come into the modern era need to find one with multi outlets and a couple of usb ports. Thanks in advance. The problem is that most units that have both power outlets and USB ports also have surge protection, which is not allowed, and frankly dangerous, on ships. Search for one that claims "no surge protection" and double check that there is no "VPN" number in the fine print on the back of the unit. VPN is the measure of how well a surge protector protects electronics. Some so-called "cruise approved" there is no such thing multi-outlets have claimed no surge protection, but had a VPN visible in advertising copy. As has been covered elsewhere, on ship's power, home surge supressor MOV parts tend to catch on fire. So simple and basic is safest - no USB ports probably. This one has been on several cruises lately.

That said, I picked up a similar plug-in device that converts a Volt plug into two plugs getting an extra plug available and it also has a couple of USB power plugs. Built in outlet converter.

The ships electrical systems are different. And that using your power adaptor is the safest way of recharging a smart device versus using an untrusted USB port at the airport, hotel, or even a cruise ship. Assuming that all of your devices accept volts, you do not need a converter. Log in Register. Followers 3. My recent cruise I bought several different types, some in my luggage, and some in my carry on - all had no issues. Ie if kena Covid before sail, will we get back refund or credits or nothing? You are using an out of date browser. I carry and use this product. Most electronics, like phones, cameras, computers etc are dual voltage so to carry a "converter" does not seem to be needed. I have used it on many cruises on serenade, allure, anthem, grandeur, etc to charge our phones and laptop. UK Cruising.
