It was the soft-spoken Arja Shridhar, one of the three propreitors of the restaurant, who picked up the concept for The Rue when she was rue du liban menu in Lebanon. After we, Jay, Sam and I travelled through Lebanon tasting and eating the fantastic food, they felt the same and it all just fell in place. He has already shown his commitment to his passion by launching, along with the same two friends, Gustoso, the Italian eatery, one in Khar and the other at Kemps Corner.

Able to accommodate 60 people, the restaurant will feed guests inventive and inspiring takes on Lebanese food. Along with the main dining room, there is a private dining room for more intimate parties that can cater to 12 guests as well as an elegant bar area. The cultural heritage that marks the Levantine region, when not overshadowed by its restive political undercurrents, will often take you through a smorgasbord of delectable flavours—from the fresh punch of the herbs, to the velvety drizzle of olive oil and the succulence of chargrilled meat. The restaurant evokes the warm intimacy of cultural references from Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and southern Turkey. Beirut, in particular, has inspired most of the details in this 3,square-foot space. London-based Dale Atkinson, from Rosendale Design, was brought on board for the interiors and was soon left to scour the region for inspirations. While the Knesset Eliyahoo synagogue just adjacent plays accomplice to the setting, the interiors are a throwback to Beirut, in particular for the subtle art deco elements. The lights, panels, and furniture have been custom-made in London and the crockery handmade by Pune-based Curators of Clay and Udaipur-based Baariqui. Antique brass serving trays and old postcards from Beirut further root the design in its context. As far as Levantine cuisine is concerned, Rue du Liban serves up its manakish with just the right dose of understated elegance, enough to lend the space the warm embrace of familiarity of its muse: Beirut.

And just as fancy as the name sounds, is the ambience of this place. Totally in love with their lights and arrangements. Went on a weekday for dinner. Now home from a wonderful trip to India, I am taking the time to review this restaurant as we enjoyed it so much. First the location is fantastic, in a fun interesting part of Mumbai near independent boutiques. The service too was perfect, not overly The decor is beautiful with a clubby cool vibe. It is the food though that we enjoyed the most. There were five of us so we ordered widely and every dish was a joy.

The upside-down hanging-garden ceiling is the showstopper at atmospheric Rue Du Liban , a cosy new contemporary Lebanese and halal bar and eatery founded by restaurateur Imran Khaleel a Swiss-trained chef in another life and Executive Chef Maged Makram, hailing from Egypt, who boasts more than four decades of experience working for luxury hotel groups across Egypt and South Africa. Details matter to the founders and to us as diners. Even the bronze tableware, with the metal thought to aid in digestion, is specially handmade in Odisha, India, for the restaurant.
