It's quite a compact and lightweight hammer-fired pistol designed to be an inexpensive option for self-defense and concealed carry. This pistol with a single-action SA trigger relies on the use of the famous 9mm Luger cartridge. As the Security-9 is a mid-sized handgun, it means it's equally suitable for both open as well as concealed carry. Each machine has its own problems and the same is with guns. One of the most occurring problems with the Ruger Security 9 are related to its slide. So what exactly can go wrong? When the slide is locked to the back and you insert a full magazine the slide lock will not disengage when pulling back on the slide and releasing. You have to depress the slide release and pull back on the slide to get it to release. Or when trying to manually depress the slide release, it is almost impossible to get it to release. In that case when you have to manually depress the slide release, the round would not fully seat into the chamber. And you have to actually push the slide forward to get the round to fully chamber. In this case it seems like the slide release is sticking for some reason.

When in doubt, they replace. I was so glad to get it back.

If I shift my grip to where I can reach it, my trigger finger is now in position to tilt the muzzle left when I press the trigger. Using to hands to draw and release the safety is only barely better than having to rack the slide. My goal is to be able to draw, release the safety, acquire the target, and fire, and to make it seem like a single, fluid motion. I carry a security 9 on occasions I really dont have problem with the manual safety but better to carry with safety off like a striker fire first pull is hard which acts as a safety. I know the security 9 is not a striker fire it actually has a hammer but it is quite safe with manual safety off.

When I first inspected it, I found it was really hard to get the slide stop to set, but was told it would loosen up with firing, and slingshot worked fine. After about rounds, it's easier to set the slide stop.

I'll always have the safety on when at home, but when away from home, I usually leave the safety off. So I'm going to carry the pistol back to him tomorrow luckily, he's just across the street from where I have a doctor appt tomorrow anyway. I put on a pair of leather gloves and managed to work it another dozen times. Assumed it would have to happen since the serial number will be different. The pistol is stock except for the installation of a TK hammer bushing, Ruger grip panels, HI VIZ sights, and a quick polish job with a dremel and mini buffing wheel attachment. He got an email from them -- I think he said Tuesday or yesterday -- that my gun is now in the repair process. David38 August 30, , am The rest can be fixed by replacing the problematic parts, which is the thing the Ruger company is willing to do for you. Worse, it started feeling "gritty" when going back to "on", almost like there's sand in it. It appears this pin was pressed or hammered in too much when assembled at the factory.
