Firstly, many thanks for showing an interest and dropping by. This project is the biggest thing I have ever undertaken, and it's both labour-intensive and expensive. I am experienced, hardworking and dedicated, but I would struggle to finish this project without the support of people like yourself. As I thought about ways to tackle it, I developed the idea of documenting the rebuild, and involving volunteers. I hoped this would not only help make the restoration possible, but also turn it into a wider-reaching project that will be of interest and benefit to a range of boatbuilding and sailing enthusiasts, and also introduce others to the craft and the way of life that has bought me so much satisfaction. I am trying to rebuild TALLY HO with utmost respect for historical accuracy, whilst also incorporating modern technology where it makes sense. By maintaining the highest standards of materials and workmanship throughout, I hope that she will last for at least another years. Eventually I plan to sail the boat back from the Pacific NW to the UK, which will be a journey worth documenting in itself, and race her in the famous Fastnet Race, which she won in Although I have been saving money as hard as I can for the last few years, this project is proving to be a lot more expensive than I had imagined. My plan was originally to return to paid work whenever neccessary to top up the funds, and I am still perfectly willing to do so if I need to. Since then I've been rebuilding that boat from the keel up with the help of a lot of amazing people. However, this decrepit hulk had once been a fine yacht - she was designed by the famous artist Albert Strange, she was built in by one of the UK's most respected boatyards, and she won the prestigious Fastnet race in under the ownership of a Lord. Although I was terrified by the scale of the project, I decided to try and save this historic vessel. I moved her by truck miles to the Olympic Peninsula, and got to work! Since then, the project has grown and changed a great deal, but the goal is still the same - to get Tally Ho back in the water and sailing again. Thanks to the amazing support of this community we now have a small but wonderful team working full-time on the boat, and despite facing all kinds of different challenges every day, it feels like there might be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Tally Ho is a gaff-rigged cutter yacht designed by the artist and yacht designer Albert Strange. In , the Albert Strange Association, then owners of the boat, sold it to an English boatbuilder to be completely refit. Albert Strange is best known for the canoe yawl with a double-ended or canoe-stern hull and the two masts of the yawl rig. However, Strange designed Tally Ho with a transom stern and a cutter rig , which was an unusual design for him. After two other owners and a name change to Alciope , [2] ownership of the boat passed in to the then Lord Stalbridge , who renamed her Tally Ho.
