Hi, My shower stopped working the other day and the light on the isolator switch was also off so I opened to have a look. Looks like the brown wire has burnt out as it's now black. Is this going to be a big job or can I just replace the isolator switch. Does it need to be a specific switch as all I see is cooker switches are these the same thing. Manemzjum , Oct 30, Either way, it's a new switch that's needed. It's not whether it's a shower or a cooker What is the power rating of your shower? If it's 12kW you need a 50A switch. If it's 9. You may not get a 40A rated they are usually 45A or 50A.

We know the pain. But have you ever wondered why only your shower pull switch keeps breaking? Shower pull switches are designed to be turned off. If you always switch it on and off, it can damage the switch. Moreover, buying a poor quality switch can cause it to break. Other than this, a cramped wiring or a loose connection is to blame. Did you know that shower pull cords are meant to last for up to 10 years? Then how come your pull switch keeps breaking every other week?

Crabtree pull-cord switches are good. This may be the root cause of the burn out issue, try to get a shower switch with 2 screws on each terminal, and, if possible, double over the conductors.
