Serial planes sculpture
Initially sketch out the gazelle, serial planes sculpture, then draw what you want the sculpture to look like from the top and side views. Drawing the top, side, and front views or an orthographic projection is how you can represent a three-dimensional object on a two-dimensional surface like paper.

Serial planes sculpture
In this assignment you will be building 3 small sculptures that imply forms in different ways. One will be constructed from planes, one from lines, and one from both. Your materials will be chipboard, square wooden dowels, and hot glue. Form refers to the singular area of space that is filled with matter or, at least appears to be! It is a distinct unit perceivable to the viewer and delineated from its surroundings. This idea of delineation or separation, that it is a 3d body that is perceivable is what gives the interpretation of form so many possibilities. How do we delineate it? So form is an independent, three dimensional mass or volume where mass generally refers to a positive solid and volume refers to a negative, open space surrounded by material, as in a bowl or other vessel. There are innumerable ways to understand, represent, and make a form. Take the common cube for example. A cube may be thought of as:. Cast from a liquid material like this chocolate and lard work by Janine Antoni. Or the planes can be in a series in the same orientation as in this work by Felix Gonzales-Torres. Sometimes forms are implied, as in this implied cube by Tom Friedman.
How do we delineate it? You have completed a serial plane gazelle sculpture, serial planes sculpture. The form can be free standing, hanging or mounted on a base the design of the base should enhance the form.
Post a Comment. Recognition of a Problem: The purpose of this project is to apply serial planes construction concepts and the principles and elements of design to the creation of a three-dimensional abstract form using additive methods. The form can be free standing, hanging or mounted on a base the design of the base should enhance the form. You must include an opening to reveal the interior space construction. Keep in mind that the edges of the foam core will create lines, the layering of the planes will create a volume with positive and negative space, and natural and artificial light will create gradation and shadows. The outcome of both phases of this serial planes project was successful in terms of transformation of rather flat surfaces into a 3D Object through a creative exploration of positive and negative space. Despite the difference on the materials used and problems presented in each case, the projects are quite consistent. Particularly in terms of the shapes used. In the book, the combination of open and folded pages provided a dynamic narrative of textures and colors all around the 3D piece. The book has indeed acquired a new life. In the case of the foam board sculpture, I believe the scale enhanced the possibilities of perceiving the piece from different perspectives. Lighting has added also a new and interesting dimension to it. Thursday, March 17, Serial Planes Studies.

Grey You will divide it into six sections with the inner four having the same width. Pink CF12D9. Orange 9C5B0D. Sometimes forms are implied, as in this implied cube by Tom Friedman. Now make that out of separate planes with a space in between, and you have:. Red 9C0D0D. Compose your models at a scale of 2x2x2 inches using Bristol board, card- board or foam core. Red F9B8B8. Your materials will be chipboard, square wooden dowels, and hot glue. This work by Josepth Kosuth i s a good example of the many ways of thinking about the area that form occupies. Calculate the number of shapes you will need and figure out the best way to transfer them to the foam core using the maximum amount foam core least amount of scrap. Serial Planes Albert Bonet.

I can not participate now in discussion - it is very occupied. I will return - I will necessarily express the opinion on this question.
The matchless phrase, very much is pleasant to me :)
In it something is. Thanks for an explanation. All ingenious is simple.
