He is one of the students in Class 1-A, training to become a Pro Hero. He is voiced by Kiyotaka Furushima in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Christopher Bevins in the English version. Hanta is a young man of rather tall height, Japanese. He has black hair that is spiked downwards along with black eyes. His face is regarded as rather plain with his eyes often opened quite wide as well as often sporting a grin, with his teeth being prominently straight and narrow. His elbows are cylinder-shape dispensers, which allows him to use his Quirk and shoot tape from them. His hero costume consists of a black and white bodysuit with two large yellow shoulder-pads as well as white boots that are lined with yellow. In addition, he adorns a helmet in similar style to his costume with a black visor covering his face.

My Hero Academia does an excellent job at using superhero tropes to compliment the shonen genre and create some truly lovable characters. Hanta Sero has a fairly normal appearance when he's in his civilian attire and he doesn't stand out very much. However, the character's Quirk is on the more creative side and it helps Sero stand out. His Tape Quirk dispenses an adhesive material from his elbows — which he's able to shoot out to either bind opponents, create traps, or swing from for transportation. My Hero Academia has slowly built a large stable of characters to the point that there are now dozens of developed individuals.

There is always that one person in the massive shounen manga or anime cast that will inevitably fade into the background. The Taping Hero Cellophane is, sadly, one of the more forgettable characters. Having watched and read My Hero Academia up to the latest content, I could still honestly admit that Hanta Sero is the most forgettable member of Class 1-A. He fades into the background most of the time, just being there and assisting in most scenes. Such is the case with Hanta Sero, who is one of the best examples of what real high school can be like. In every high school class, there are the popular kids, the sports kids, and the ones who just sort of fade into the background. Hanta Sero is very much that character. Despite being surrounded by the strongest child hero prodigies in the entire world, he is just sort of there.
