I returned from my Gambian holiday with the lurgy I left with.

Kerry designed the quilt to be sewn by a beginner, growing their skills as they work their way through the tutorials. So it starts off with simple blocks such as the 9 patch and the bordered 4 patch, just sewing squares and rectangles, and works up to foundation paper piecing which I have to admit I have never done before. Kerry's tutorials are clear and concise, with lots of photos, to make them easy to follow. We are just on week 3, so there is still time to catch up if you'd like to join us. We've set a slow pace so it won't be hard to keep up with, and we're having a break over Christmas to allow people to catch up. The Quilt Along is being sponsored by Fabric HQ who are providing a month gift voucher for their site as a prize. There are already over beautiful quilt block pictures on Instagram, click here to view them.

I have to admit to spending more time than is sensible on the internet. However, in my defence, I do sometimes come across really useful things. Today was one of those days. Fiona set up The Sewing Directory as a resource guide for stitchers and both are going from strength to strength. Whenever I go somewhere, like many other stitchers and crafters, I am always on the lookout for new, independent fabric shops, haberdashers and other craft outlets. The first two will be much easier to find with the help of these guides — yippee! Each Guide has a map showing independent, local sewing businesses. What a great idea, and, they are free to download! For each business listed on the maps, Rachel has usefully included a key showing the type of products sold: Haberdashery, Fabric, Wool, Classes, Machines. Happy shopping! During the day I spent some time chatting to Will Abakhan of Abakhan who sell fabrics, crafts and haberdashery both online and in their bricks and mortar shops and I am thrilled to tell you that he and I will be working together occasionally to show you products that they sell and bring you tutorials.
