Contact the SFM Team at: sfmteam valvesoftware. The Source Filmmaker is the movie-making tool built and used by Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. It is how we have been making all of our animated short movies. Because the Source Filmmaker uses the same assets as a Source-engine game, what goes into the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. All you need is a Steam account which is also free. You can download SFM here. Most tools only create a fraction of a movie: a renderer, a 2D video clip editor, a keyframer, a motion capture editor, a sound editor, etc. The SFM is a hybrid of all these workflows merged into a single system, where you can create an entire movie by reusing assets and events from the video game world. The SFM allows a storyteller to create an entire movie on location inside the video game world of Team Fortress 2. Movies exported with the SFM can be uploaded to the web or shared like any normal movie file. Fabrication is done using the same tools you would use to create a normal Source game mod. The SFM is native to the Source game engine. The initial release is for the game world of Team Fortress 2. There are nine characters, hundreds of locations and thousands of props, particles, textures, and sounds. Source Filmmaker often abbreviated as SFM is a 3D computer graphics software tool published by Valve for creating animated films , which uses the Source game engine. Source Filmmaker is a tool for animating, editing, and rendering 3D animated videos using assets from most games which use the Source engine, such as sounds, models, and, backdrops. SFM also allows for the creation of still images, art, and posters. SFM contains three different user interfaces and a "work camera" for previewing an active scene. The three interfaces are used for creating clips, controlling animation, and making fine-tuned adjustments, which include:. Users can either create new projects or import data from Source-based games to extend their SFM animations. SFM also supports several cinematographic effects and techniques such as motion blur , Tyndall effects , dynamic lighting , and depth of field. Users can also rig 3D characters and can use inverse kinematics to manually animate movements.
