Ranged Weapons influence your primary ranged damage, and depending on their level, will increase the damage you deal with every ranged attack and headshot. Bows and Hammer gear, like other Gear, can be randomly found after killing Captains, Warchiefs, and Overlords - and can come in Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary rarity. Each Ranged Weapon you find may be random, but the level of the weapon will indicate how much damage it can deal, and the rarer gear will also have additional bonus effects. Longbows specifically have the ability to pierce through targets when fully charged, while Hammers have the ability to erupt and deal damage around a target when fully charged. These rarer weapons will also have Unlock Challenges with randomized requirements. After completing these challenges, they can be unlocked to not only grant additional bonuses, but raise the level of the weapon by several levels - increasing its base damage output, but can only be unlocked once. Legendary Bows and Hammers however, have Upgrade Challenges to upgrade a Legendary Ranged Weaon to level 20, level 40, and level 60, which require recruiting or killing specific Classes or Tribes of Orcs from a certain level.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War introduces some RPG customization mechanics in the form of "Gear", which functions as equipment that affects Talion's performance and abilities and offer wide selection in gameplay approach. Gear is forged whenever a captain is killed. The level and quality of the gear is determined by the level and title of the captain when they are killed. Daggers tend to have effects relating to Stealth Kills and Quick Throw. Hammers, Bows and, Longbows all fit in the ranged slot and determine the damage of Ranged Attacks, including Power Shot.
