She became a slave and she was treated harshly by her first master. Rishia came from an impoverished noble family and she joined Itsuki's party. Itsuki treated her like a burden, and his party tricked him and betrayed her. She contemplated suicide until she was stopped by Naofumi. The Hakuko siblings lost their parents while they were young. Atla was afflicted with a deadly illness until Naofumi met her, and Fohl was forced to fight in death matches to pay for her treatment. Happiness in Slavery : With the exception of Rishia, Naofumi's party is composed of slaves he had bought. However, Raphtalia and the others are happy to remain as Naofumi's slaves- in major part because he eventually becomes just about the only slave owner who treats his slaves with any sense of decency- and consider their slave brands as proof of their loyalty to him. Hero's Slave Harem : Most of Naofumi's party qualifies because many of them have crushes on him.

Based on the web novel by Aneko Yusagi, the first season premiered in , and Season 2 followed in April The reason for the show's popularity most likely stems from its distinctness compared to most series within the similar fantasy genre. The anime's plot follows the summoning of four young men from alternate versions of Earth to the Country of Melromarc as the Four Legendary Heroes. On arrival to this new world, the Shield Hero , Naofunmi, was discriminated against by the citizens of Melromarc. However, despite misguided notions of the Shield Hero was useless, Naofunmi pushed on and made a name for himself — much to the chagrin of those that wished for his downfall.
