While these have some situational benefits during combat, they really shine when the player is undetected. To break it down, there are three major branches of the Illusion skill tree: Fury, Calm, and Fear. Courage spells can help during the big siege battles during the Civil War questline, and, though they do not receive their own specific branch or upgrades, Muffle and Invisibility both of which are especially handy for thieves are also considered Illusion spells. Sneak is one of the most powerful skills in Skyrim, but players who want the defensive benefit from their light armor or heavy armor skill will suffer noise penalties when sneaking.
