The fact that Raven Rock had seen better days is one of the first things that are apparent after your voyage from Skyrim. The remote settlement had once grown wealthy from its rich ebony mines that had once hauled up massive quantities of the valuable ore. Raven Rock's fortunes dried up with the mine's reserves, leaving the residents without work. One of them, Crescius Caerellius, has been searching for his great-grandfather's remains and journal in the belief that the mines had been wrongfully closed and that there was more ebony to be found within. Too old to enter himself, you can search for him. You start this quest by entering Raven Rock Mine, on the north of the settlement. The mines have been shut down long ago and should be empty. You need to speak to Caerellius despite his foul mood. He will tell you that he is searching for his great-grandfather, Gratian Caerellius' Journal, believed to be deep within a dangerous section of the mine. Aphia is trying to dissuade him from investigating. As a compromise, Caerellius gives you a letter and key from his great-grandfather and asks you to search in his stead. You will be given the letter regardless of how skeptical you are. You will not have to appease him to progress the quest.
It's a blessing. Enter the mine, and follow the passage. Speak with Crescius Caerilliuswho will either still be in the mine or will have returned to his house, and hand in the journal.

The vertical fissures, up and down, require an aimed vertical power attack. Eventually the fissures you see on the side will be gone and there will be a fissure in the door and you will need to do the vertical power attack aimed at that new fissure. That should open the door. Good luck! You have to aim up as two new horizontal ones appear at the sides near the top after the first two sets.
