It is a large glacial valley hidden deep within the mountains on the northwestern Skyrim peaks of Haafingar and the Western Reach of High Rock. The valley features its own unique flora and fauna and lexi blow handful of caves and subsections throughout, skyrim the forgotten vale. It is initially only accessible after traversing both Darkfall Cave and Darkfall Passage. It is now inhabited by the brutish, corrupted Falmer and a variety of indigenous creatures: Vale deer , Vale sabre cats , frost trolls , and frost giants. You will visit it during the course of the Dawnguard add-on's main questline, either as a Vampire Lord or as a member of the Dawnguard. The temple built by the Snow Elves in honor of Auri-El is found here. In front of the Inner Sanctum , there is a frozen lake with a word wall in the middle for the Drain Vitality dragon shout , which is guarded by the twin dragons Naaslaarum and Voslaarum.

The Forgotten Vale is a hidden region of Skyrim that is inhabited by Falmer. However, it once was a holy place to their predecessors, the Snow Elves , and houses a temple to the goddess Auri-El. It also contains a massive frozen-over lake and waterfall, where dragons are known to lurk, even underwater. It contains variants of almost any species known in Skyrim , including the otherwise unseen Frost Giants. At the north-eastern shore of the frozen lake a word wall for the shout Drain Vitality can be found. Shortly after entering the vale the Dragonborn will stumble upon a small cave, just north of the main path. In the cave a Rope Release opens up a hidden passage to the a Shellbug that can be mined for Shellbug Chitin. Further along the path the Wayshrine of Sight is located. And entering the main vale with the frozen waterfalls, to the south-east is the Wayshrine of Learning. At the northern end of the frozen lake the Wayshrine of Resolution is located. Finally just before crossing the stone bridge to the Inner Sanctum the Wayshrine of Radiance appears. Entering the main vale, turn north along the frozen waterfalls, upriver to find the Paragon Portal, that lets you place paragon gems from Frost Giants , opening portals to various hidden areas in the vale. After the Wayshrine of Resolution, following the river upstream will lead to a cave connecting the river bed with the Falmer tents up in the mountains, this can be used as a short cut to avoid some of the Falmer resistance in the canyon. Another Shellbug can be found here. On the roundabout path to the Inner Sanctum, the Glacial Crevice will need to be traversed.

It is split into two large areas which are separated by a narrow canyon. On the southwest side, it contains a waterfall that sits below a vast frozen lake. The other side, to the northeast, is a snowy forest environment dotted with exotic flora and fauna. Throughout the Vale there are many "hidden" treasures and other not so obvious points of interest, so it is recommended to search throughout the place carefully for maximum loot and satisfaction.

During the battle, they may dive back through the ice before smashing more holes in the ice when they emerge again. On your right is a gold ore vein. The tent's upper level has open sides for use as lookout points. More Falmer tents are on several levels, and ahead is Prelate Edhelbor in front of the Wayshrine of Radiance. These areas can be accessed either directly or via the paragon platform , and include: Darkfall Grotto , Forgotten Vale Cave , Forgotten Vale Forest , Forgotten Vale Overlook , the Glacial Crevice , the Inner Sanctum holding Auriel's Chapel which is displayed as "Temple Balcony" at the wayshrine portals, once the final wayshrine found there is raised at the end of the related quest , and Sharpslope Cave. It is said that every pilgrim ascended, bathed in light, a look of relief and contentment on their face. As such, the Snow Elves of the Forgotten Vale had no need of the protection of the Dwemer , who demanded the blinding of the race. A moonstone ore vein is against the rock face behind the snowbank. The only sentient species permanently residing here are the Snow Elves, who were once more common before their slaughter by the Falmer. A short walkway crosses to the second tent, which contains a Falmer chest and a leather pouch holding a pine thrush egg, a rock warbler egg, and two pieces of honeycomb. Wayshrine of Learning.

Heading southwest leads to a stone arch, with stairs rising from the lake towards the wayshrine.
