The municipal borough was abolished under the Local Government Act on 1 April , and replaced by Slough Borough Council , when the town was also transferred from Buckinghamshire to Berkshire.

A council faces having to sell off most of its buildings to cut its debt, government commissioners have warned. A report by the commissioners said it would have to sell most of its assets "without exception".
