In this episode, Randy Marsh discovers that Broadway musicals contain subtext that encourage women to give their partners oral sexwhile Shelly starts dating a young vegan boy named Larry Feegan.

Randy becomes interested in Broadway musicals after learning that they carry subliminal messages urging women to give their husbands blowjobs. Meanwhile, Stan's sister Shelly gets a new boyfriend. Broken Aesop : At dinner with the Feegans, Shelley tells Larry's parents that they should let him think and act for himself, whether it's in his dietary choices or the company he keeps. Right afterwards, she implies that he gets beat up for being vegan and it wouldn't "had a nice steak once in a while", implying that he should stop being a vegan partly out of peer pressure and that he should be more like everyone else, contradicting herself within the same scene. Character Development : Shelly starts out as her hot-tempered, violent self, but soon develops feelings for Larry and is nice to him. Comically Missing the Point : When Randy creates his own show, the lyrics explicitly talk about women giving blow jobs instead of being subtle like the other shows.

Although their first meeting is confrontational, Randy and Sondheim later have a "bro-down" and gain respect for one another. Now officially "bros", the other writers eagerly help Randy make his play more subtle, renaming it to The Woman in White and removing all the outright mentions of blowjobs, instead of introducing more oral "subtext". It is not known whether the play was completed, as Randy left to interrupt a performance of Wicked in order to stop his daughter from performing oral sex on her boyfriend before it was completed.

A " Broadway Bro Down " of course! I knew I was in for a weak half hour when the episode opened insulting my Dolphins and praising Tim Tebow. I mean, seriously, Miami makes for way too low hanging fruit for these guys. From there, Randy quickly discovered what pretentious men around the world have known for years: Broadway musicals lead to blow jobs. But Randy was let in a little secret the rest of us never learned and that's why. It's not a nice evening out with your woman. It's the subtext. Clearly, so many aspects of the episode were meta. I'm sure Stone and Parker and probably to an extent Lopez were probably considered a little too "bro" compared to their established Broadway composers.
