A staff of the woodlands was a powerful, enchanted staff. Theses staves were always made from the wood of either an ash , oak , or yew tree. This wood was finely grained, carved, then bound and shodded with bronze. Those who wielded one of these staves could cast animal friendship , speak with animals , and wall of thorns. They were also allowed one to animate a tree in a similar manner to the innate ability possessed by treants.
