The red eye was shown once in the cartoon which was episode two of season one, there was little information about it, the only info was given was that the red eye was meant to crash into beach city and destroy everyone in that area, so I'm just gonna say a few things that I think the red eye was made for and what is it? The diamonds have blasted the red eye to destroy the gems, the reason why I'm saying this is because why would the red eye be flying to the same direction that the crystal gems are located, and plus the red eye does have similarties to another weapon which is the cluster, both weapons giant round spheres that are meant to destroy huge populated areas. It could be that the cluster takes time to destroy a planet so the diamonds or home world could just wanted to speed up the process and send out a less of a powerful weapon but just as efficient which is the red eye. The red eye could be gems that are harvested in astroides, and when the gems form they become red eyes, the reason why I thought of this topic is because gems are a species that go to different planets for their resources to make other gems and when a planet doesn't have its resources anymore, the gems then migrate to another planet where the process goes over again, gems could of tried out gem harvesting on some astroides which is why they become red eyes.
