The transformation seems to combine several traits of other Super Saiyan forms all together. The hair of the user grows more and becomes much spikier, like super saiyan rage combination of Super Saiyan Third Grade and Super Saiyan 2. When first achieved, the user also loses their irises with their eyes becoming completely white, however when the user masters the power they gain lighter green irises, super saiyan rage.

Though he was stronger than ever, Future Trunks still returned to the prime Dragon Ball timeline for assistance from Goku and the Z Fighters against a new threat menacing his alternate future: the villainous Zamasu. As the final battle against Zamasu raged, the evil god merged two alternate versions of himself from alternate timelines to become even more terrifyingly powerful. But, pushed to the very brink, Future Trunks unveiled a new transformation of his own that turned the tide of battle against his divine enemy: Super Saiyan Rage. Even with this transformation in hand, Future Trunks was still unable to defend his world from Goku Black , a version of Goku from an alternate timeline whose body was possessed by Zamasu. And as the Z Fighters joined Future Trunks in his own timeline to take on Merged Zamasu, it was ultimately up to Trunks to deal the final blow against the villain using Super Saiyan Rage, which is now Trunks' most powerful transformation yet in the official Dragon Ball canon.

The Super Saiyan transformation is an iconic element of Dragon Ball Z and the series has iterated on it with new forms ever since its introduction. Goku first unlocked the Super Saiyan transformation during the Namek Saga, and since then, the franchise has introduced a total of 21 variations and upgrades. While not all of these transformations are available to every Saiyan, each of them has been used by a Saiyan at some point in the broader Dragon Ball canon. These Super Saiyan forms are listed primarily in order of debut, which also loosely aligns with the power level of each form. Many of these forms were only used for a brief period of time, or by only one person, and they don't always have an obvious visual difference, like different hair color, to distinguish them from one another. The first time Future Trunks achieved this unique branch of Super Saiyan was during the "Future" Trunks Saga , after being beaten down by Goku Black and Future Zamasu 's deadly combination and being told all of the suffering his timeline had endured was all his fault. While Trunks' character did have a few emotional moments with his father and younger alternate self, there was one particular aspect of his development that seemed a bit out of place for his character.
