Svartalfheim is one of the Nine Realms you can visit in God of War Ragnarok, and contains a vast amount of regions you can explore during your adventures. It is one of the first realms you can visit during the main quest, and also holds many optional side areas to explore. This page contains an overview of all of Svartalfheim's regions, including collectible locations, side quests, secrets, and optional boss fights in the realm. Many regions in Svartalfheim cannot be fully completed until you return later in the game. Svartalfheim is the land of the Dwarves, where Brok and Sindri originally hail from. A steaming wetland, it is marked by geysers, rivers, and bays surrounded by mountains and pitmines that the dwarves have dug into, as well as building settlements throughout the realm. In order to secure their protection, most dwarves have sworn their loyalty to Odin and the Aesir at the cost of their own liberty, and the signs of their forced servitude are evident everywhere.

This makes posting guides — and screenshots — a bit tricky. When you leave the realm gate, before you get into the boat, walk to your left. Throw your ax at it. The first Artifact — a part of the Things Left Behind collection — is on the first island in the Aurvangar Wetlands, just before the water wheel. When you get out on the island, freeze the geyser with your ax and cross over to the other side. Turn around, recall your ax, and freeze the geyser next to the one you just crossed. Jump up there and walk over to the dead dwarf. Pick up the Artifact sitting next to him. The first Nornir Chest is on the same island as the Artifact above — just before the water wheel in the Aurvangar Wetlands. Use your ax to freeze the geyser and jump across to the other side. Turn right and jump across a small river to reach the chest. The items always alternate. Once on the raised platform, look for a large tree. The Seal is sitting right next to it. Break it.
Use your Draupnir Spear to climb up to the second floor and then turn left, svartalfheim.
This article contains lore based on real-life sources from Norse Mythology as introduced from the God of War Norse Era. Famed for their architectural skills, renowned blacksmiths and outstanding builders, the Dwarves also display unparalleled business and financial accumen, meticulously exploiting their virtually unlimited resources in perfect symbiosis with their homeworld. Thanks to their wise management, it is safe to assume that Svartalfheim thrives much better than any other realm. The warm and wet environement of Svartalfheim as well as its particular geology greatly favored the development of Dwarven infrastructures all around the realm, which in turn facilitated the establishement of numerous workshops and pitmines, from where the Dwarves extracted their high quality ore. Displaying an unparalleled talent in architecture, they built exquisite houses that gradually gave birth to small and reclusive communities. Traditionally associated with smithy and weaponry, Svartalfheim is also the richest realm in minerals and natural resources, making it the financial heart of the Norse realms.
Dwarves are master smiths and craftsmen who live below the ground, and so, Nidavellir or Svartalfheim was probably viewed as a labyrinthine, subterranean mine, and forge complex. A dark and smoky place, only the torches on the walls and the fires from the forge illuminate it. Historically, the dwarves were associated with craftsmanship and magic. In the Prose Edda, Svartalfheim is only mentioned twice. In the second scenario, Loki discovers and captures Andvari to seize his cursed gold. All of these stories are set in what is known as the land of the black elves, but they do not seem to concern beings we would think of as elves.

In Norse mythology there is traditionally said to be nine realms, all interconnected and held in place by the cosmic tree Yggdrasil. From various mentions in both trusted sources for Old Norse myths, and some less so, we know that the realm is found hidden underground. It is here, in great caverns and underground halls that the dwarves have made their home.

Light all three torches to claim the treasure. Mimir will prompt you to go here if you investigate the gate in The Watchtower area. From here the path will split: left to a water trough puzzle, and right to some gold rocks. The bell will however lower back down again: for this reason, you should hit this bell first. With that in place, return to the wooden platform and go to the left side, where you can see the exposed geyser. Left leads to the main path, so go right instead. Kick down the metal plate if you need to, then drop down below. This Yggdrasil Rift is found deep within The Applecore, however you cannot get to it until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest, giving you a new piece of equipment. There, use the grapple point to get onto the walkway, then slip under the wooden pole on your right to get to the rift! Use your blades to ignite it.
The Prose Edda, a collection of Norse legends from 13th century Iceland, details the cosmology of the Norse people. They believed that there were Nine Worlds, each of which was the home of a different race of beings.
When you climb up the spear and onto the landing, walk past the Legendary Chest and into the corner. Cross the bridge to enter Alberich Hollow. Turn right and jump across a small river to reach the chest. On their way to the rigs, they first reached the Dragon Beach , where they found a long abandoned Dwarven settlement not far off a giant skull, now invaded by hostile creatures. You can first access it once you destroy a Wretch Nest, revealing a lava rock spawner. The first is a Gale Spark: similar to Chaos Sparks, finding six of these will allow you to upgrade the Draupnir Spear. In order to keep the Dwarves on check and aware that he needed Svartalfheim's support, the All-Father deliberately granted them a privileged treatment compared to the other realms. When you get out on the island, freeze the geyser with your ax and cross over to the other side. To get it, turn around, then plug up the geyser using the Leviathan Axe. The Raven will be flying over the lake in the middle of the mine: look for a gold chain you can slide down on the North side of the lake. The Legendary Chest will be there on the left. Down in the Applecore — either via the elevator or the mystic gateway — take the zipline and then hang a right. There are only a few collectibles inside the Myrkr Tunnels, and chances are you bumped into all of them your first time through — the area is very linear.
I apologise, but, in my opinion, you are not right. I am assured. Write to me in PM, we will talk.
