In summer I let time drift. A few weeks ago the battery in my alarm clock ran out. On a number of occasions I have passed batteries in shops and neglected to purchase the replacement. On my bedside table there are two alarm clocks now; neither of them have functioning batteries in. When I wake up I have no idea what time it is. I switch my mobile phone off at night and it is laid on the kitchen table.

By mike44 February 15, in Bangkok. Do you think a mains operated clock is a wise choice given the casual nature of the electricity supply in most parts of Thailand? I have seen them everywhere here in Pattaya Also, at the various night markets I have not seen one with a batter backup yet I got mine for b or so I got a digital wall clock from MBK many years back. Used the 50 Hz signal on the mains to keep the time, and also has a battery backup for when the mains are off. Runs fast however when disconnected from the power due to a cheap, non temperature compensated RC oscillator circuit. The same shop had a dozen or so of the small, bedside alarm clocks, and they were cheaper. Don't remember the price as at that point in my Thailand experience I was spending money like water, but I'm sure it was under baht. I would be surprised if you couldn't find what you were looking for at MBK. If you are already in Bangkok I would start there due to convenience of access and variety of products.

Hopefully you can get one with battery back-up.
