She is the supreme ruler of the Gem Homeworld, and is the oldest and most powerful Diamond. As the majority of White Diamond's characterization occurs in the closing episodes of season five, ALL spoilers will be left unmarked. You Have Been Warned! Blue and Yellow seem terrified of her, and it's implied they try to limit their interaction with her to avoid getting on her bad side; Yellow Diamond specifically mentions her poofing and bubbling the other Diamonds as a punishment. As shown in "Change Your Mind" , she readily employs physical violence and even brainwashing to keep the Diamonds in order. She finally grows out of this at the end of the episode, however. White : I've been saying please and thank you, even to lower lifeforms! Same for White, who initially tried to rip out Steven's gemstone to bring Pink back, but it only produces a full-gem version of Steven, much to her dismay. Leitmotif : Befitting the leader of the Diamond Authority, her leitmotif is primarily based around the first, highest synth tone from the Diamonds' collective theme, but it's continuously overlaid by an atonal, reverberant electronic ambiance that renders it a far more sterile and unsettling theme than any of the others, the diamonds steven universe.

This is what White Diamond expects of all of us! From a thin flake of mica to the deepest, hardest stone, we all must make sacrifices for the sake of our perfect empire! Before Era 3 , the Gem Homeworld maintained a strict Caste System with gemstones having predetermined roles, places, privileges and purposes in the social pyramid, and Gems who deviated from this were considered defective. Since penalties were severe, disgruntled Homeworld Gems kept to themselves or went into hiding. Because there were so many of each Gem-type except Diamonds , all Gems normally distinguished themselves via serial numbers. The Caste System was divided under the rule of the Diamonds and other Homeworld elites; if Gems were to greet or refer to others in higher sections of the Caste System, they normally prefaced their Gem name with "My" to show they were their superior s. The Caste System was somewhat tied to real-world gemology and mineralogy i. Diamonds being the highest as real-life diamond is highest on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. However, this was not a proper rule for the series as it took creative liberties with Gem-types and their rankings, including but not limited to:. The Caste System had its beginnings in early Gem history as the Diamonds rose to prominence.

This caused the Diamonds to cease fighting. At the end of the movie, the Diamonds travel to Earth because they decide they want to live with Steven there. Eventually, she found a Diamond Communicator at the old Moon Base and contacted Yellow Diamond allowing herself to talk directly to her. The Assimilator : As indicated by her page quote, White Diamond is able to forcefully remove what she considers to be "imperfections" from other gems and make them into her puppets. She rants about "Pink" trying to deceive herself, yet spent eons deluding herself into thinking she's flawless and that Pink Diamond is still alive. By the time of the movie , they are all essentially retired now that they have entered Era 3 and are no longer the rulers of Homeworld and have liberated all their colonies via Steven's request. Stupid Evil : One of the Diamonds' fatal flaws is their habit of putting revenge and spite before reason , even if it works to their detriment. Pull On. As told, Rose and Pearl attacked Blue's court and everything played out according to Sapphire's prophecy until one of Sapphire's Ruby guards saved her from Pearl causing them to accidentally fuse into a new Gem named Garnet. However, Pink often upset the other Diamonds by doing things for which she would be punished; she had her Pearl taken away, something that strained their closeness. The loyalty Gems had for their Diamonds was such that some would do anything to avenge them. As for me, I'm certain I don't need you. Abusive Parents : While it is impossible for Gems to have familial ties in the biological sense because of their Bizarre Alien Reproduction , the Diamonds are mother figures towards their subjects — not that they don't view them as expendable and shatter them for the slightest sign of disloyalty. Even when Yellow and Blue personally invade Earth with the intent of awakening the Cluster and getting their revenge, White seemingly still can't be bothered to even send a representative.
Don't worry, Peridot. It's our sworn duty to protect anything that calls this planet home, and that includes clods like you. Steven and the Gems play an old fashioned game of baseball.
Her body is mostly obscured by the light emanating from her gem, making it look like her entire body is made of light to the point that her head looks almost like it's two-dimensional from some angles. Pink assumes the identity of the wise and kindhearted Rose Quartz in an effort to outgrow her Immortal Immaturity and escape the crushing pressure of her life on Homeworld, while in White's case she uses the persona of being the perfect Diamond to justify her actions and demand all of Homeworld to live up to her impossible "perfect" standards. She thinks she needs you, Pink. On the structures built during Era 1, the logo consisted of four connecting diamond shapes: white top , yellow left , blue right and pink bottom. Steven Universe: Future shows how much she and the other Diamonds have changed, as they've developed new powers that contrast their Signature Moves , with White, in particular, allowing other Gems to control her instead of her controlling other Gems, allowing them to help rediscover their self-worth. She holds everyone to an impossible standard that no one is capable of meeting, at least without serious psychological effects. White: You enable their terrible behavior, so you can be the best of the worst! In "Reunited" , Blue is by herself nearly able to defeat the Crystal Gems now with Bismuth and Lapis among them with her Emotion Bomb and Beam Spam powers, and when Yellow joins the battle, the Gems can barely hold them back. Though they are definitely the most powerful singular Gems revealed in the show, in terms of personality, this description is distinctly more propaganda than fact. It was at this time Pearl remarked how she could shapeshift into the form of a Quartz thus leading to Pink creating her " Rose Quartz " persona.
