The uninvited vs a tale of two sisters
Anna Emily Browning has been in a psychiatric institution for ten months, following her suicide attempt after her terminally-ill mother died in a boathouse fire.
It is a remake of the South Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters , which is in turn one of several film adaptations of the Korean folk tale Janghwa Hongryeon jeon. Following a suicide attempt after her terminally ill mother died in a house fire, Anna Ivers is discharged from a psychiatric institution after ten months; she has no memory of the actual fire, though recurring nightmares from that night frequently plague her. Back at home, Anna reunites with her older sister Alex and learns their father Steven has a new girlfriend, Rachel Summers, who was their mother's live-in nurse. Anna and Alex become convinced that Anna's nightmares are messages from their mother, telling them that Rachel murdered her so she could be with Steven. The girls remain angry at Steven for moving their mother into the boathouse when she got sick, her only way of calling for help being a bell that Rachel tied to her wrist. Anna meets up with her old boyfriend Matt, who tells her he saw what happened the night her mother died, but Rachel intervenes before he can explain further. The two secretly plan to meet that night, but Matt fails to show up.

The uninvited vs a tale of two sisters
A Tale Of Two Sisters is unlike most conventional horror films. Although it does have its share of menacing jump scares , it has harrowing drama and psychological thrills in equal measure. Because of its well-rounded approach and emotionally immersive atmosphere, it's unsurprising that it is considered to be among the best horror films by many. Reminiscing and rummaging through the memories and psychology of its characters, A Tale Of Two Sisters tells the story of a family suffering from extreme grief and remorse. With a slow-burn pace, it merges reality with the supernatural and heavily relies on ambiguity to rouse viewers. Even beyond its cinematic appeal, there are several aspects of the film that beg admiration. Starring Emily Browning and Elizabeth Banks , the remake was initially intended to have the same title as the original South Korean film. However, it was later changed to The Uninvited. One of the only minor differences between the two films is the age difference between their titular sister characters. In the original, Su-mi is older than her sister Su-yeon.
