Nicky first appeared during a flashback in Brothers , where he, Jack, and their father were headed on a fishing trip. As Jack anxiously awaited the return of Stanley, who had stopped for beer at a tavern and left them in the car, Nicky woke up and asked where he had gone; Jack reassured him and they kept each other busy by playing with a can of fishing bait.

But warning, major spoilers ahead! The specialized episode focused on Deja's secret trip to visit boyfriend Malik at Harvard and Nicky's road trip 50 years in the making! Of course, as young love has a tendency to do, it clouds Deja's judgment, and she lies to Beth and Randall, telling her parents she's going to spend the weekend with her friend Tiffany. Only younger sister Tess seems to know what she's really got planned. Meanwhile, Malik has his hands full at Harvard, juggling college living and coursework while coparenting daughter Janelle with ex Jennifer. It's not the ideal situation for Deja, who is a little taken aback by the real-world responsibilities her boyfriend has to manage, but understands the pressures he's under. They finally get an evening to themselves, which sweetly ends with a nervous Deja and Malik deciding to sleep together. She has a great first experience, but it's only a matter of time before her world is turned upside down once Randall and Beth find out she lied to them. The two first met in , when they worked together at the veterinarian clinic in Pittsburgh, and he hasn't been able to stop thinking about her since. What's more, he doesn't know whether she's single or even whether it's the right Sally. And yet you just have such a soft spot in your heart for Nicky you can't help but find it endearing. The good news is that it is the right Sally, and she's home to answer Nicky's knock at the door. She's just as gorgeous as Nicky remembers, and she invites him—and Rebecca and Miguel—in for refreshments. The bad news is that she's married, and it's something she fails to reveal until her husband, Eric Jeffrey Nordling , walks into the living room.

But after choosing to stay with his parents instead of running away to Woodstock with Sally, Nicky was stuck in Pittsburgh and eventually shipped off to Vietnam, where traumatic events led to a falling out with Jack, whom Nicky had a missed opportunity to reunite with once back home. Nick was mostly seen in the pivotal flash forward of Rebecca's final moments, as the Pearson family gathered at the cabin to say goodbye to her. He recounted how Jack should have never gone after him in Vietnam, and how his brother saw everything in black or white, never gray. After a series of self-important remarks, Nicky reprimanded him and explained the pain Cassidy had been going through. We said this. And then that could very well be something we go to, but as of right now, it's not necessarily something that we would revisit specifically. She was joined by Rebecca, where they shared spend some time talking things out together, leaving the men to themselves. Her saying out loud that she has Alzheimer's—and the fear that you start to fade away in other people's eyes—especially for women, I think that's hard because there's so much more put on them with looking a certain way and having to deal with that. Vanessa Bell Calloway is as stunning and as regal and as talented and as just badass as you get. Cassidy drove him to the airport and insisted that Kevin knew he was traveling, though Nicky did not seem concerned. By Sarah Y. Kevin took off after being scolded by Nicky and got into a fight at a local bar. This might be more of a question for Dan Fogelman, but do you know what he was looking for when it came to casting the role of Edie? After some banter, she and Nicky watched a movie together. That evening, he found some drugs and took them, leading Jack to find him high and detached the next morning. After briefly considering returning to the trailer, Jack drove home. Kevin was surprised by this idea, but permitted it. Sally said her goodbyes with Rebecca and Miguel, and then shared a private moment with Nicky. He declined any request to let the brothers interact, insisting that family could not be in the same unit, due to the risk of sending home multiple condolence letters. After Kevin calmed him, he spoke to the judge and exclaimed that he did not express remorse for throwing the chair, but rather, that he felt happy he did so, or else his life may not have changed for the better. Kevin moved out while Madison stayed with the twins at the home they had shared, so Nicky eventually moved in with Rebecca and Miguel. Sadly, This Is Us ended following its season 6 finale on May 24, , bringing the story of the Pearson family to a satisfying conclusion.
