Tissot timing

Cycling Track is made up of a wide range of disciplines whose variety makes the sport one of the most complex to time, tissot timing.

The closest I've ever been to being on a sailboat, yacht, or even rowing a boat is at my local gym using a row machine to burn off all of my excess fast food calories from throughout the week. So, if I'm not a boat person, why would I even like a watch with a regatta timer that's specifically meant to time the start of said boating activities? Well, if they're as fun and colorful as the Tissot Sideral, then, why not? The new Sideral I handled is actually a modern iteration of Tissot's original Sideral S, which was a follow-up to its Sideral. The originals were made of fiberglass with colorful cases, but these new versions are cased in carbon and stainless steel.

Back at the Tour de France, Cyclist visited the race to see how official timekeeper Tissot went about timing the biggest cycling race on the calendar and ensuring an accurate result. During that visit we learnt how finish line cameras take 10, images per second, representing a one ten-thousandth of a second accuracy, to split finishes that previously would have been given as a dead heat or potentially called the wrong way. At the Tour de France , Tissot is charged with the timekeeping but also the processing and broadcasting of results — often immediately after the first riders cross the finish line. The timing system, finish line cell, photo finish cameras, transponders and computers are all used to get the millimetre-accurate results. The photo finish is what ultimately decides a result and can even see provisional results overturned and celebrations spoiled. Time-trials are a different undertaking to mass start stages and can require twice the personnel — 16 rather than eight — when compared to a road stage. Also different to a road stage, TTs require instant and accurate timekeeping given that several riders are progressing at different points along the course at the same time. The transponders send a unique signal to an antenna located on the course, which then identifies the rider. This antenna is connected to a decoder that sends the signal to the timekeeping computers located in the control room, known as the Chronopole. Jack Elton-Walters was the Website Editor of cyclist. Even if you're not into the Sideral's aquatic background, the loud colors are downright fun to wear. Speaking of colors, the Sideral comes in three different color variations red, blue and yellow , and they're all equipped with integrated rubber straps that match the colors on the dial. Like this model, I also enjoyed a bit of ice cream while wearing the Sideral. The case is mainly black in our modern versions, but you'll find more color in these dials than in the originals.
