I think more than being the main villain, he was meant for another purpose, and it was to make Clementine feel like she could be the main villain, and yeah the "You and I are not so different" theme is very cliche and all, but I think it's different in this case since this 40 year old sociopath says so to a 12 year old girl, IMO, Telltale is aiming to make some really uncomfortable scenarios with Clem after what happened with Carver, and for me that's fine, by this point Season 2 is more about Clem rather than the people who travel with her. I think the whole episode seemed rushed. Would have been interesting to see Carver escape somehow, and possibly be a future antagonist or foil for the group.
