Unova map

Unova is divided by two rivers that lead into an ocean to the south of it. Unova map rivers cannot be surfed on, with the exception of the river directly below Village Bridge. It divides Unova into central and eastern peninsulas and a western landmass, unova map.

It was the fifth core series region to be introduced. According to Junichi Masuda , the geographical and social background for Unova draws inspiration from the New York City metropolitan area. The region also has several cultural references to the country where this state is located, the United States of America. According to the game director Masuda, this is to express that although the region is diverse in species and race, they are all the same as living creatures when seen from a distance. The region's English name likely comes from the Spanish word uno or the Latin word unum one , and the Latin word nova new. It may also be derived from united , considering its basis on the largest city in the United States. It also sounds like parts of the phrase Un ited States of A merica. Although some of Unova is geographically based on New York, the creators of the region took some liberties in regards to the surrounding areas. One of the largest cities in Unova, Castelia City , is based on Lower Manhattan , but to the immediate north of Castelia is as opposed to a continuing metropolis as in real life a vast desert. Nimbasa City , which is to the north of Castelia City, could be a reference to Broadway , which is located in Manhattan.

The eastern half of Route 1 is a straight path heading north to Accumula Town. There are patches of grass both at the beginning and end of the path with a grass patch between them and to the right of the path. Between and to the left of the first and second patches are some steps leading to the sea. When the player acquires Surf , they may travel westwards along the water to reach the western half of the route. The western half of the route leads back east, up some more stairs and then south-west through a number of irregularly-shaped patches of dark grass before terminating at a gate in the south-west that leads to Route This is not the case in Black 2 and White 2 , as Route 1 is not accessible until the post-game.

Route 3 starts off with a short simple path to the north after exiting Striaton City. The player can travel westwards to find two separate paths, one that leads west and another that leads south; a patch of tall grass is located at the top of the intersection. The player can continue down the west path to find Wellspring Cave and a large patch of grass, or to the south, which winds around the shore of a pond. The player can then cross the pond by a bridge to the west leading to Nacrene City , past a few patches of tall grass. In Black and White, this is the first area where dark grass is accessible. After obtaining HM03 Surf , the player can travel across the pond to the other side.
