During the academic year, the time commitment is significant as Resident Advisors help with the orientation, support, and development of residents. Students receiving financial aid should confer with UVA Student Financial Services to understand whether some or all remuneration will be applied to reducing the balance of loans or grants in the financial aid package rather than in refunds of room and board payments. Parking permits are not part of the Resident Staff remuneration. There is no requirement that any member of Resident Staff have a personal vehicle on-Grounds.

Every student living on Grounds has a Resident Advisor RA who lives within the residential community. These student leaders are identified through a peer-driven selection process and committed to building strong communities that value the University's traditions of honor and student self-governance. From structured programs to informal peer advising, RAs and SRs support the physical well-being of students and their academic, social, and emotional development. RAs in undergraduate housing areas work with residents to build community through programming and individual relationships. RAs also work closely with their peers in weekly meetings and take part in required summer training O-week as well as ongoing training throughout the year.
