During the academic year, the time commitment is significant as Resident Advisors help with the orientation, support, and development of residents. Students receiving financial aid should confer with UVA Student Financial Services to understand whether some or all remuneration will be applied to reducing the balance of loans or grants in the financial aid package rather than in refunds of room and board payments. Parking permits are not part of the Resident Staff remuneration. There is no requirement that any member of Resident Staff have a personal vehicle on-Grounds.

Every student living on Grounds has a Resident Advisor RA who lives within the residential community. These student leaders are identified through a peer-driven selection process and committed to building strong communities that value the University's traditions of honor and student self-governance. From structured programs to informal peer advising, RAs and SRs support the physical well-being of students and their academic, social, and emotional development. Residents will learn what it means to live in and contribute to a residential community, through community standards, engagement in council, self-governance, and communication with roommates. Residents will develop skills to engage in positive behavior and respect toward others in their community, as well as develop an understanding, appreciation, and acceptance of individuals different from one's self. Residents will work toward greater resilience by focusing on emotional wellness and explore new ideas, new understanding, new skills, and their identity.

The capabilities, personality, and interests of each RA will be taken into consideration when specific assignments are made. Emergency Situations —Assist in maintaining order in emergency situations, including assisting with monthly fire drills. The Resident Assistant position is a paid student employment opportunity. RA hall assignments and placement are for an entire academic year. RAs in undergraduate housing areas work with residents to build community through programming and individual relationships. RAs also work closely with their peers in weekly meetings and take part in required summer training O-week as well as ongoing training throughout the year. These requirements apply at the time of your application submission, throughout your candidacy, and during the time of your appointment.
Resident Staff implement the opening and building closing processes. This includes explaining the functions of Resident Staff. Meetings —Attend and participate in a weekly 1 hour staff meeting and a weekly half hour 1- on-1 meeting with your supervisor. Administrative Tasks —Maintain records concerning room and key inventory and damages for student rooms. Ease their adjustment to and through their University experience. Professionalism —Maintain a professional attitude and manner while employed as a RA. Programming —Facilitate a variety of programs at least per semester both individually and in cooperation with others RAs, RHA, campus police, etc. The location and availability of parking is subject to change at any time.
