Being a martial arts franchise rife with cataclysmic energy blasts, Dragon Ball has no shortage of strong characters. Among the toughest is Vegeta.

Dragon Ball 's Vegeta is driven by many goals, but during the Frieza Saga, he could percieve no greater accomplishment than becoming a Super Saiyan. Vegeta had to reach rock bottom before he finally ascended to this superior state, and it still didn't happen until Goku became the first one to experience an even greater power boost. Over the course of Dragon Ball 's various sagas, Vegeta attains a handful of other Super Saiyan forms, but he typically remains one step behind Goku. Dragon Ball Super slightly revises this formula and power structure. Vegeta not only catches up with Goku, but he begins to develop his skillsets and transformations. These forms are unique in their powers and abilities, but they all push the Prince toward the same goal of Saiyan supremacy -- and surpassing Goku. This displays Vegeta's tireless pursuit of greater power, as he aims to get a better grasp on the powers and abilities that his Ultra Ego form offers him.

As of right now, many of the main heroes such as Piccolo, Vegeta and Goku get absolutely incomprehensible jumps in power during this part of the show, which is in large part based on Frieza's power and how they must compare to his power in order to challenge him. I will be making a few assumptions to make this sensible: If we don't actually have a scouter reading of a person's power, such as Vegeta's 24, when he's powering up against Cui , then that power level is an estimate, and the "official" numbers are really open to interpretation. Scouters don't always get a character's true power and are unreliable Frieza is a known liar. He lied to Vegeta about keeping his father alive, lies to Gohan about Goku dying and begging for his life in tears, among many other lies and exaggerations of powers. As Vegeta himself even states when Frieza boasts his power level of 1million in his 2nd form, "don't believe it, that's impossible, even for him! Because Frieza's power levels such , in 1st form are only stated by him, and never read by a scouter by another character, we can take some liberties with these numbers and assume Frieza is lying and exaggerating as he is known to do, and not have to abide by these numbers which inflate all of the power levels for the rest of the series to an absurd degree.

Vegeta is an Elite Class warrior far superior to Goku in his base form. Goku has to use the Kaio-Ken times 3 in order to best Vegeta in power. The Great Ape tranformation is Stated to be 10 times more powerful than a Saiyan normal base power level. Vegeta received a Zenkai boost after his battle with Goku on Earth, putting Vegeta on the same level as Goku when using the Kaio-Ken x3. After being beaten by Zarbon, Vegeta is put in the rejuvenation chamber giving him another boost in power. He later defeats Zarbon effortlessly and is even able to challenge Recoome. It took Vegeta years of training to achieve Super Saiyan, after learning it was actually real when Goku achieved it. Unfortunately, these devices quickly became obsolete. Vegeta never actually canonically attains Super Saiyan 3 power, temporarily leaving Super Saiyan 2 as his peak. This naturally leads to some amazing feats from the Saiyans.
