Thousands came out to remember those who have lost their lives in war at the Remembrance Day service and parade in Weymouth. Just before 11am on Sunday, November 12 veterans, cadets and youth divisions of the armed services gathered next to the war memorial along the Esplanade with the mayor Cllr Kate Wheller, and representatives from the forces, local associations and organisations. As they all gathered to pay their respects and lay wreaths, the rain stopped, and a glimmer of sunshine was seen as Reverend Betty Port began the service. During the Act of Remembrance, the Last Post was played before the firing of a canon on the beach signalled a two-minute silence. Rev Port then read out several prayers before the laying of the wreaths at the cenotaph, which was followed by the national anthem and then the parade down the seafront.

Remembrance services are set to be hosted in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester this Sunday November 12 , to remember those who lost their lives. Weymouth will host a three day celebration in support of our Armed Forces, past, present and future over the weekend of Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th June A host of displays and information will be available during the weekend, veterans and families will be able to discover and receive the support available from the various agencies and organisations. Visitors to the event will be able to learn, appreciate and support the important role played; and recognise the diversity of the Armed Forces, veterans and all service associations. On Saturday 22nd June, historic military vehicles will arrive on Weymouth Seafront for an interactive display with the public being able to look around the vehicles up close and share stories.
