I recently decided to make a list ordering my least favorite WoT book to my favorite, and I posted this on my website. I wanted to see where everyone else decided to rank the Wheel of Time books. If you don't want to rank all of them, then you can put down your favorite and least favorite book from the series. A Memory of Light - Trollock slaying goreporn, complete lack of structure, off-handed and illogical resolutions to multitudes of plot-lines which had no place being in the last book. AMoL felt more like fanfiction than a WoT novel, numerous established in-universe rules were violated for the convenience of the plot unrestricted channeling in Shayol Ghul, men initiating the link, Dark One being the source of all evil, sa'angreal suddenly lacking a safeguard against burning out, etc. Crossroads of Twilight - extremely detailed descriptions of how nothing of relevance happens.

This book also has an incredibly memorable scene where Mat teaches an important lesson to a couple of arrogant tools which I just love every time I read it. Also it was a shame to see that there was no Mat POV in this book, especially since his story ended on a cliffhanger in A Crown of Swords. Thus, it is my favourite book in The Wheel of Time. So I'm reading this series and listening on audiobook when I can't find a moment to read. Good story, Rand laying the smack down, but Egwene was jarring.

While the first book was just an homage to traditional storytelling, the second book takes on unique plot threads and masterfully weaves them together by creating a bridge between traditional and modern high fantasy literature. Other books rank higher because they have the benefit of the groundwork laid by this novel, but none of it would've been possible without this audacious fantasy classic. Like Loading The Eye of the World continued to surprise me as it went on, endearing many of the characters to me, most notably Perrin, with his wolf storyline, and Thom, with his heroic supposed last stand to defend Mat and Ran.
