From the the "half-truths" of the media, to the fickleness of societal trends, the narrator is not so glad "he met you", meaning society and the world in general. The things in the world that make him "scraped and bruised", and the unhealthy relationships that make him "wheeze", make him desperate for some sort of escape. It all "makes him want to go away", but as the chorus exclaims, "stop dreaming 'bout the shiny gun"; suicide is not the answer. Sounds like another failed romance.
