They were right about a lot, but they were also wrong in parts too. I wriggle my wrists for him to release them, and then I run my hand up his sleeve to the bulge of his tattooed bicep. He fishes something out of his pocket and flicks it at my chest. I look down at my hand. His fingers press more firmly into the base of my throat. It rained throughout the whole book. My own body is stabbing me from the inside and I have sweat running down my forehead. Why is this always the sticking point? I yank my hand back before it can become impaled, clutching it to my chest, and I stare horror-stricken at the truck. I can still feel it deep in my bones on the most innate primitive level that this is for me. Then he pauses, eyes wide like he just said something incriminating. I flick the top button of my shirt through the hole and then I whip my curtains shut. How can you say that? When he drops his head forward again he sighs with a lazy smile, basking in my threat. His touch is so perfect that I choose to stay still, not wanting to disrupt the moment.
