A Chinese restaurant in Ocala was forced to temporarily close its doors last week after a health inspector found evidence of roach and rodent activity. The report states that roaches were observed in the restaurant, including two live roaches on the exterior wall of the walk-in cooler behind a sign, four live roaches under a handwashing sink, three live roaches near a wooden shelf, and four live roaches behind the water heater. A dead roach was also spotted on the wall above the handwashing sink, 15 dead roaches were found under a microwave, and five dead roaches were on the floor underneath shelves. In addition, the health inspector observed nearly 50 rodent droppings on the floor underneath storage shelves. The restaurant remained closed, and the health inspector returned the next day. One dead roach was also spotted above the reach-in cooler.

Among the issues the restaurant was cited for were five high priority violations, including the presence of rodent activity. The report states that over rodent droppings were found throughout the restaurant. There were 60 droppings on the floor underneath shelves, two droppings on cardboard next to rice bags, three droppings on top of a flour bin container, 91 droppings on the floor underneath shelves next to the bathroom entrance, 50 droppings on the floor in the bathroom, and 23 droppings underneath single-service storage shelves. The health inspector observed gnaw marks on bags of breadcrumbs and flour inside the dry storage area. The establishment was also cited for not sanitizing food-contact surfaces after cleaning or before use. The health inspector noted in the report that food debris, a mold-like substance, or slime was visible on the surfaces.

According to a report from the department, during the first visit on February 27, the restaurant was cited for 25 health code violations, including 8 considered high priority.
