Today on the site, Monica Johnson explores Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang's Paper Girls. Since its debut last fall much has been written about Brian K. Admittedly, I am one of the many who love this comic. The covers of both issue 1 and the first collected book—which came out in April and compiles issues 1 through 5—feature striking illustrations of the title characters: Erin, Mac, KJ, and Tiffany. Four twelve-year-old girls. Four adult men.

Before Watchmen met an underwhelming response in the marketplace, zzz comics, being a decent selling book with minimal impact in collected form, as opposed to the sales juggernaut they could have expected given the strength of the Watchmen brand name. The Tijuana Bibles of the early 20th century were produced in secret by zzz comics or unknown authors, but they reflected—and how!

Magnifier is an ongoing series, with three issues so far, written by ZZZ. The most recent issue was released at the very end of with lines and cover art by Black Mamba, and colors by Cexi and Black Mamba. The story begins with a gorgeous lady called Ms. She gives a co-worker, Harry, permission to use the Magnifier and the initial pages showcase his growth. It was nice to have a woman design the size-changing device, as normally a man would fulfill that role.

The page collectors edition includes the images both with and without text, plus alternate artwork, previews for other comics, and sketch pages. In return, she casts a spell that endows him with the ability to make women bustier and taller by having sex! It appears that this is the only ZZZ comic with artwork by Bunny. I recommend this comic. On a side note, it would be preferable if the comic series did not switch artists and kept a consistent style throughout. Given that there were two years between the first and second, perhaps we can get a third installment in ?
