The Helltaker is the titular protagonist of Helltaker. The Helltaker is a buff, muscular man, who enjoys playing turn based strategy games and eating chocolate pancakes. During his trek through hell, he wears a red shirt and a white suit jacket and pants, with a red flower in his lapel. At the end of the game, he replaces his suit jacket with a black apron with "SATAN" written in white while he cooks pancakes. Upon waking up from a vivid dream about having a harem of demon girls, The Helltaker decided he would venture down into Hell to build a demon harem in the real world. In the epilogue, the game declares that although a life with a demon harem is guaranteed to be short and painful, you might as well have fun and make the most of it. The Helltaker does not make an appearance in Examtaker , although he does get a brief mention at the end.

A sharply-dressed guy with a talent for making gourmet desserts, who ventures into Hell in order to create a harem for himself. In fact, he tends to discourage the more aggressive personality traits of the demon girls. Aggressive Submissive : Despite him taking the initiative to seek out a harem of demon girls, half the choices to most of girls are very blatant masochistic comments. He is also shown to be very grumpy with the girls, complaining about their antics before being dragged into doing what they want

It was released in May for Microsoft Windows , macOS , and Linux , and is described as "a short game about sharply dressed demon girls. The player proceeds through a series of puzzle stages with the end goal of reaching a demon girl, answering her question appropriately, and incorporating her into the player's demon harem. Each puzzle stage involves pushing stones and skeleton soldiers around a two-dimensional top-down grid akin to Sokoban while keeping within a set turn limit, while also avoiding spike traps and collecting key items. The final boss level featuring the demon Judgement, the High Prosecutor includes phased bullet-hell -like mechanics with chains across the screen. Narrated by Beelzebub, the plot follows the player character, known only as "The Helltaker," in his descent to hell to acquire a harem of demons. As the game progresses, the harem becomes increasingly dysfunctional, with the Helltaker admitting that all he can offer is "coffee, turn based strategies and chocolate pancakes. The player can collect them in three of the stages during the main game. Vanripper has posted comics on his Twitter account that canonically take place before the "Epilogue" as well as some that take place after the "Abysstaker Ending". A level pack, called Examtaker , featuring harder stages and a continuation of one of the comic arcs was released in to celebrate the game's one year anniversary.

Sharp Dressed Woman : The detective is wearing a sharp suit of a light gray color. However, given the difference in her attitude towards the game and the girls, it's possible that her sexual interests are limited to the girls, making this downplayed. Although she seems to be more bewildered by her situation than actually upset given that her chief concern is that she can't write about what she's experienced in the thesis she's writing as no one would believe her. The Starscream : She may have been subdued by Loremaster and forced to be her maid, but as Loremaster notes Lucy still tries to assassinate her roughly twice a week, and in private she tries to convince Subject 67 to usurp her himself, since Loremaster knows all of Lucy's tricks while 67 is enough of an unknown variable that he might have a shot. Muscles Are Meaningless : He's very buff and muscular, and can quickly dispose of the Undead Mooks , but any of the slender and lean demon girls are perfectly capable of killing him in a variety of ways. Lucifer: I'm supposed to be the goddamn Queen of Hell! Gold and White Are Divine : Her outfit is white with gold highlights. So guaranteed in fact, that in the timeline where the Helltaker goes to be with Beelzebub, Azazel becomes so corrupted by sin that she becomes Loremaster, the new overlord of Hell. Spending so much time around sinful demons and joining in their antics is leading Azazel on the path to becoming a Fallen Angel because she just can't resist the temptation to learn more about them.
