Broadstairs will once again host the fun day for all ages in Viking Bay and Victoria Gardens. Events start at 9am with the gala ending at 9. Broadstairs Water Gala is returning to the town today August 23 with a host of activities the whole family can enjoy. Spread out over Viking Bay and Victoria Gardens events will include paddleboarding, sandcastle competitions and a scavenger hunt. It will begin at 9am with the Teddy Bears Picnic at Lillyputt Mini Golf while at the same time, paddleboard lessons and water safety sessions from the Kent Surf School will be held on the beach.

A hour weather warning is in place for Wednesday, August 2 and orgnaisers of Broadstairs Water Gala have taken the decision to postpone the activities but hope to keep the evening entertainment. The water gala was due to take place in Viking Bay and Victoria Gardens. But in a statement organisers said: "We are so sad to announce that we cannot go ahead with the planned activities for Water Gala [on August 2]. The funfair will be open throughout the day, although some rides may not be able to operate. The Bandstand was busy with singers, character actors, circus skills, performing arts and theatre and there was a funfair and stalls on Victoria Gardens and the Prom. Broadstairs annual Water Gala, originally called Water Sports day, started in before becoming the Water Gala in Volunteers from the Broadstairs Lifeboat shop manned a stall on the promenade and members of the volunteer Water Safety Team were also in attendance handing out flags and stickers to the children and giving water safety advice. After a stay of three hours both boats returned to station waving to the crowds as they left. The crew had just enough time to eat when they were paged to an 11 metre yacht with electrical failure just off Ramsgate, concerned about getting into the Harbour. The all weather boat attended and passed the stricken yacht a line before towing it into the safety of the harbour. The annual event rounded off with music on the bandstand from Ozzie and the Uglies and a firework display. The most anticipated show and of course our favourite is the fireworks; It is advised to get there early but there are no shortage of places to sit and see the display with the promenade, seafront, jetty, bandstand and Victoria gardens all offering excellent viewing of the show as the skies above the bay are lit up in colour and effects.
