Chrom is the main protagonist of Fire Emblem Awakening.

All Fire Emblem games have different protagonists. Important characters that become the face of the game for quite some time. In the case of Fire Emblem Awakening, that protagonist is Chrom. Chrom is one of my favorite characters in the entire saga. In my personal top 5 protagonists, he is at number 4. Many people tend to find him a rather dull and flat character. Although it may be a little true, the reality is that I personally find him to be a very charismatic character and one of the best parts of Awakening.

He is in the Lord class much like other main characters in the Fire Emblem franchise. Chrom is different from the lords of previous games and requires a Master Seal to promote instead of promoting at a point during the game. While his noble birth excludes him from compulsory military duty, he leads a small group of warriors known as the Shepherds. While he is a descendent of Marth he is compared more to Marth's unknown ancestor who originally defeated Medeus before the events of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. He wields the blade known as Falchion, which Marth used to slay the dragon Medeus in ages past. His daughter from the future, Lucina , wields the very same sword, which creates skepticism among the Shepherds about her disgisued identity. While he is royalty, Chrom does not like to be treated as such. In a support conversation between Vaike and Lissa it is learned that Chrom met Vaike while Chrom was helping their village in a battle. During the battle, Chrom wore a mask so he would not be reconized. This suggests that at one point in his life Chrom might have worked as a masked mecenary while being the prince.
