Finding something the whole family can watch during the holidays is a perennial challenge. Now, a few generations later, they live together in a magical house and each member develops their own talent, like the ability to control the weather, shapeshift into other people, and talk to animals. Each bedroom is magically tailored to the relative and their magical gift. All except for one, Mirabel Stephanie Beatriz. The conflict is minimal at best, which allows for Mirabel to spend more time learning about what she can do despite her lack of powers, but it also leaves the movie feeling a bit meandering.

The music of the film is definitely a high point, and floods much of the film to get you dancing in your seat and buying soundtracks later on after the movie gets older. And it is definitely a great movie for the family to check out this week if looking for harbor from Black Friday. Finally seeing it, part of me enjoyed 'Encanto' a lot and there is a huge amount to like about it. And, for me, two big flaws. And then, the house becomes an actual character, an anthropomorphized obstacle that has its own means of adding to the story as it protects and pulls the family into its moving embrace. Expanding on that, the rooms that the Familia have contain the magic that Disney can make, and opens the door for lots of new avenues to exploit in the future. That said It's a scene of a reality that is more powerful than most other family-friendly animated movies are willing to go.
