But each time they do we see the differences in culture and how they had to develop without access to the Dungeon. And in this case, we get a look at the Kaios Desert and its people. But when this is brought up, the local merchant explained that this is because they do not have access to the Dungeon and its resources or Adventurers, and so to survive in such a harsh land they adhere to such trade. They even went into the details of a desert board game, including the rules and some of the strategies involved. That took a lot more thought than necessary for the story and I appreciated it because it seemed interesting.
