Destiny 2 is ushering in a new era thanks to the recent story developments in the Light and Darkness saga and the upcoming The Final Shape expansion, which is going to bring Cayde-6 back and allow Guardians to traverse the portal that The Witness created on The Traveler. With the saga soon coming to an end, Lightfall's lackluster story didn't land well when it comes to player reception, as it was supposed to answer some questions more than creating additional doubts. However, Bungie promised that Destiny 2's seasonal stories would do that, and it seems that the most recent leaks are proving just as much. While there were massive leaks before Destiny 2 's Lightfall launched, they didn't prove to be reliable until recently, and they didn't even explain many of the lingering questions that players have had. However, soon after the launch of Destiny 2 's Season of the Deep, players were able to datamine one of the most meaningful cutscenes in the game's entire history - one that explains the origins of The Traveler's arch-enemy. The Witness' story is not only important to the lore of the game, but it seems to be retconning the contents of one of Destiny 2 's most relevant lore books - Unveiling. The leaked cutscene was likely meant to be shown in the game at the end of Destiny 2 's Season of the Deep , and it appears to be narrated from Ahsa's perspective - the sea creature on Titan for which Sloane called for help. As Season 21's prologue explains, Ahsa is an ancient enemy of The Witness, and she appears to be the one who finally tells players who and what exactly the being is. Based on the leaked cutscene, The Witness was never just one entity, but rather an entire race that once worshipped The Traveler, calling it "The Gardener. The Gardener is not something new to Destiny 2 players, and its first mention dates back to a lore book, or rather a series of lore books, called Unveiling.

With Destiny 2 being an ever-evolving game with constant updates and content additions, Bungie usually manages to make each release feel distinct enough in various ways, especially when the main theme of a given Season is cohesive. This often happens through storytelling as well as gameplay, and Season of the Deep is likely to accomplish this once more - especially if the recent Destiny 2 leaks prove to be true. Destiny 2 players are likely no strangers to leaks of the game, and some have been historically quite damaging, such as the infamous pastebin document that spoiled most of The Witch Queen expansion months before launch. Destiny 2 's Lightfall era was not immune to leaks as well, and Season of the Deep seems to carry that even further thanks to alleged leaks that contain pictures taken during an internal meeting at Bungie, revealing many aspects of the Season 21 update. Among them are details regarding Season 21's upcoming Dungeon weapons and loot pool, which could very well be an indicator of Destiny 2 's meta shifting in major ways if proven true. In fact, while Lightfall and Season of Defiance focus mainly on Strand, Solar, and Void builds, the new Season of the Deep Dungeon weapons seem to only be Solar or Stasis, hinting at a comeback of the other Darkness subclass. The way Destiny 2 's Artifact currently works entails a set of five rows with five mods each, with players being able to unlock up to 12 in a given Season and obtain their benefits permanently or until the Artifact is reset. This loop allowed Bungie to add several unique and more potent Artifact mods in Season of Defiance , but at the cost of them being more specialized. In fact, the three main categories that Season of Defiance's mods fall into are Strand, Solar, and Void, with each improving on their respective gameplay loops, such as Volatile Rounds, Tangles, and Firesprites.
