As you know, this Forum brings together Global Partners from civil society, government, academia, businesses, and multilateral agencies to create a unique space to reflect on important developments in the field of social accountability covering research, concepts, and practice. Together we hope to shape the social accountability agenda for years to come. In this respect, we are extremely proud to work with over Global Partners from over 75 countries. We will seek to better understand the nature of evolving governance challenges, as well as opportunities, and develop responses and solutions collaboratively drawing on emerging lessons. The Global Partners Forum takes place annually at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, and has become the pre-eminent global summit on social accountability for development. The Forum is consistently a co-creation between the GPSA Secretariat and key Global Partners, and features World Bank leadership, including President Jim Yong Kim, prominent thought leaders and practitioners in the field, as well as GPSA grantees and partners, in a variety of panels, workshops, small group discussions, networking sessions, and high-level plenary sessions. In addition, it seeks to better understand the nature of emerging governance challenges, as well as opportunities, and to develop responses and solutions collaboratively drawing on emerging lessons. In what manner and to what extent have state institutions embraced and incorporated citizen feedback and social accountability mechanisms, and what does this experience teach us? What roles are emerging innovative approaches, organizations, and funding mechanisms playing in the field, and to what extent are they delivering on their promise and aspirations? Both the priorities and policy environments in donor countries as well as the realities on the ground in which these initiatives are implemented have changed, posing new challenges for the implementation of openness and accountability interventions. On the other hand, the new Sustainable Development Goals provide a framework and a rationale for increasing participation and engagement of citizens, as a goal in itself, and as a means to achieve all other development goals. This session brings together leaders in the field — all deeply engaged as practitioners — to share their thoughts and experiences of navigating changing times and ensuring the continued relevance of open governance and social accountability initiatives for the foreseeable future.
