The league is regarded as Euroleague Basketball 's second-tier professional basketball club tournament. The number of the new competition was increased to a total of 48 and the winner of the 3d tier FIBA EuroCup Challenge , formerly known as EuroCup would get an automatic qualification for the tournament's following season, for first time. For this purpose, the clubs from countries participating in the ABA League qualify for the competition based on their performance in the ABA League, and not their domestic leagues. Starting with the —17 season , the EuroCup's first phase is the Regular Season , in which 20 teams participate. The participants include 20 clubs automatically entered into the Regular Season.

The —23 EuroCup Basketball season was the 21st season of Euroleague Basketball 's secondary level professional club basketball tournament. The first official act of the 7DAYS EuroCup comes your way on Friday, July 8, with the annual draw to divide the 20 participating teams into two regular season groups. Each club will get 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie or loss from the Regular Season onwards. The Club Ranking consists of the sum of the club coefficients from the last three years. Should a tie persist, the final standings in the EuroLeague and if necessary EuroCup from the previous season will be used to break the tie. Should a tie persist, the final standings in the Domestic Championship from the previous season after the playoffs will be used to break the tie. Should a tie persist, a draw will be used to break the tie, with the Company determining the method for the draw.
