In other languages:. Ideally, a balancer should be input and output balanced. Belt balancers utilize the mechanic that splitters output items in a ratio onto both their output belts. That means that a splitter can be used to put an equal amount of items on two belts. Since the process can be repeated infinitely, balancers with 2 n output belts are easy to create. Balancers also use the mechanic that splitters take an equal amount of items from both input belts. That means that a splitter connected to two input belts will evenly distribute those items onto the the two output belts. To balance belts it has to be made sure that the output belts contain an equal number of items from each input belt. Balancers that are throughput limited may not be able to provide maximum output if one or more outputs are blocked. To be throughput un limited , a balancer must fulfil the following conditions:. Balancers often do not fulfill the second condition because of internal bottlenecks. The bottleneck in this balancer is that the two middle belts only get input from one splitter. So, if only one side of that splitter gets input, as can be seen in the gif, it can only output one belt even though the side of the splitter is fed by a splitters which gets two full belts of input. In this particular case, the bottleneck can be fixed by feeding the two middle output belts with more splitters. This is done by adding two more splitters at the end of the balancer, as it can be seen here:.

Copy of Raynquist's Fall belt balancer collection, organized into nested blueprint books by number of input belts. Balancers are included for all configurations from to , plus some x, x, , , , and Also includes lane balancers for 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 lanes. Includes inline variants of lane balancers for 2 and 4 belts, lane balancers duplicated in separate lane balancer book as well as integrated into individual input belt books. Book is configured for blue belt but most smaller balancers can be downgraded to yellow or red belt without issue. Replacement larger yellow belt versions are included in a dedicated book for those where available. A few balancers had underground lengths shortened and extra regular belts added to make them compatible with lower tier belts compared to Raynquist's designs. The splitter priority technique used in the and has been extended to the , , and , making them throughput unlimited. Updated the balancer to be 1 tile shorter. Added new throughput unlimited balancer, as a proof-of-concept of its construction method.

Re: Belt Balancers - how they work and how to make them Post by jcranmer » Wed May 08, am The trite answer: math. Belt balancers utilize the mechanic that splitters output items in a ratio onto both their output belts. Post by Zavian » Sun Jul 08, pm. Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Added new throughput unlimited balancer, as a proof-of-concept of its construction method. Doing a test where each input lane uses a different item, and summing up the results via flowmeter, confirms that, after a short settling period, the consumption rate on a blue belt over three seconds is exactly 40 items each if all three are enabled, or 60 items each for the two active inputs if only two are enabled, for each combination of two lanes. This is done by adding two more splitters at the end of the balancer, as it can be seen here:.

The splitter priority technique used in the and has been extended to the , , and , making them throughput unlimited. Views Read View source View history. In it, I explain some of the theory behind how belt balancers work and how to design them properly. The resulting networks can't balance things perfectly if some inputs aren't producing and some outputs aren't consuming. Sometimes this can be fixed by looping the unused output back around the balancer and distributing it among the inputs. Board index All times are UTC. In this particular case, the bottleneck can be fixed by feeding the two middle output belts with more splitters. They're beautiful for sure, but I may lose my mind before I copy something of that magnitude from a screenshot haha! To be throughput un limited , a balancer must fulfil the following conditions:.
