Inside The Backrooms takes players into the deep and frightful layers of the Backrooms. It may be one of many indie titles to take on the lore and turn it into a goosebump-inducing horror game experience. Still, this entry does a great job of providing a short yet satisfying edge-of-your-seat adventure. Although it takes from established creepypasta and stories, you can enjoy the game just as much if not more by going in blind. That said, there are a few things, from the good, bad, or even downright ugly, that we wish we knew before we got lost in the backrooms. Many horror games use stamina to limit your actions and amp up the tension. Inside The Backrooms, though, it can be your true bane. Having a stamina bar is expected, but just how quickly it goes down is what can get you. Because of how many puzzles and twisting hallways you have to traverse, it can be a slog to walk the whole way.

For the uninitiated, The Backrooms originates from a creepypasta story posted on 4chan in It pretty much kicked off the trend for liminal spaces online, where TikTokers and Instagrams by the thousands would post photos of eerie, nocturnal, empty spaces that evoke a sense of existing between dimensions, as if turning a corner or opening a door might cause you to stumble into some dark Netherrealm, or cause entities to pour out of it. In Backrooms, you, alongside a few friends, explore a series of these liminal spaces—which range from the iconic yellow offices, to abandoned swimming pools, to spooky woods—and must solve what appear to be quite simple puzzles to progress.
