Jack golf visa run
A visa run is a common procedure for many expats who need to extend or activate their Thai visa to allow them to further their stay in Thailand.
There's something about the term visa run that sounds decidedly dodgy to me, conjuring up images of badly dressed foreigners with a few days' stubble being sneaked across international borders with a backdrop of fake visas, corrupt border officials and transnational crime. Is that the imagination running wild or is it close to reality? I recently met with Tanya, a charming Thai lady who survived the debacle that was the rapid demise of Jack Golf, Thailand's best known visa run company. From its ashes she has built her own visa run company, Bangkok Buddy. We chatted about the demise of Jack Golf, visa runs and what it's like as a Thai woman working to help foreign guys stay in Thailand legally.

A visa run is a quick trip outside Thailand, usually to Cambodia, Malaysia or Laos, where you can renew the visa allowing you to remain in Thailand for another month. Jack Golf is probably the best known visa run service in Bangok. Before I got my work permit, I probably did visa runs with Jack Golf at least 10 times, so I know how they work. They have visa runs almost every day of the week and usually run two runs a day. The second visa run service Jack Golf runs starts at 9am and gets you back into Bangkok at 6pm more likely 7pm to 8pm because of traffic. These runs go to different Cambodian borders, the 5am one going to a closer border, the 9am one going to a border slightly further away. If you need to do a visa run, call Jack Golf the day before to reserve a place on the trip. The van or bus, depending on how many people on each trip leaves at 5am or 9am sharp, so make sure you are on time. At the beginning of the trip, Jack Golf will collect the cost of the visa run 2, baht and they will also ask you to give them your passport. Once the trip begins, Jack Golf will drive for about an hour and a half outside Bangkok then they will stop at a gas station where you will be able to get snacks, drinks, coffee and go to the bathroom if necessary. Then, back on the bus and another hour or so to the Cambodian border. At the Cambodian border, you will walk into the border office yourself and the border official will check your passport and stamp you out of Thailand. This is the time where, if you have overstayed your visa, you will also be able to pay any overstay fines, which currently run at baht per day that you have overstayed.
Invariably there would be someone who would try and start up a conversation audioalter the person sitting next to them for jack golf visa run it almost seemed to be a ritual for other passengers to tell them in no uncertain terms to shut up. They also go to the Ban Laem border crossing and seem to alternative between a large luxury tour bus or a 9 passenger mini-van depending on how many passengers they have.
I last did this about seven years ago and even though I still had a few months left on my visa, Immigration cancelled it and said I had to leave the country within 7 days. This is because the work permit is tied to the visa and is only available for that particular job. Immigration told me to leave the country and come back with a 30 day visa exemption stamp which can then be changed in Bangkok Immigration to a Non Immigrant B Visa. Last time I flew to Luang Prabang and made a holiday out of it. But this time, I just wanted to do the quickest way. Many people go on visa runs or border runs every day.

Around or AM, the Jack Golf guide would come and collect the group who would be walked back through the Thai Immigration checkpoint with passports already stamped. I tried to help him but in the end it all went to fxxxing hell. He saw an opportunity and diversified, offering a daily service taking foreigners to the border and back and smoothing out all the frequent hassles at the border. Koreans are not like Japanese and they cannot control themselves like Japanese can. Thinking about people from the West, are there any countries for which it is either easier or more difficult to get a visa for Thailand compared to others? Public anger boils over in protests in Phuket against Swiss man Mr Uli and private beaches. Jack disappeared amongst much rumourmongering late last year and the company collapsed almost overnight. Then again, if you see the state of the women here you would understand why! This is actually the first visa run like this I have done. Eugen Posted June 7, I also notice chains such as Watson's have opened a branch on Soi Buakhao. I got ET out front and he ran the guy off, but only after they squared off and ET told him "Don't do it…" try to fight.
An annoying part of life for any foreigner living or traveling in Thailand for more than a few weeks, the dreaded visa run is a fact of life you have to get used to and must remember to do every time one is due. But, for the uninitiated, what is a visa run and how do you actually do one?
A laywer knows what he is doing. They travel via 9 passenger mini-van to the Ban Laem border which takes approximately 4 hours. For the visa you would need to go to the embassy. Ironically this is happening just when the authorities are succeeding in eradicating graffiti in Western cities. So you have 1 bad day! Business is all over the place, with some venues picking up others closing, completely out of the blue. I think their income is irregular. They do go everyday and i bet next time you go is without drama. It would be much much easier and cheaper too. Are you aware of any other visa law changes that the general public might not be aware of? An English guy — it's always English guys — was tired and he got the wrong passport when we came back through in to Thailand. How did Jack's Golf get to be so popular offering such utterly crap service? I just think, well, let them get on the van, try and sleep, sober up and hopefully they will be ok!
I congratulate, what necessary words..., a brilliant idea
