I want to teach you all how I made my 2 year old daughter this red velvet cloak with just one yard of fabric. It was so amazingly easy to make and it turned out way better than I could have hoped or dreamed. Keep scrolling for step by step instructions with pictures. First, meet Clara, aka Red. She is my very sassy two year old. I totally had to bribe her with sweets to get her to dress up and smile. I also had an insanely good workout chasing after this girl today while trying to snap a few shots I was literally jogging for about 20 minutes straight. No joke. First, I would like to give credit where it is due. Clara's dress is loosely based on this tutorial I found on Simple Simon and Co. I must give props to Simple Simon and Co. Her petticoat was something that I just threw together with some tulle, elastic and white costume fabric.

For really little kids I recommend Velcro for safety.

I am new at sewing I know this is 2 years too late but this instruction confused me for ages too. Forget about cutting a 'second circle' - you have already cut it! But thanks so much to the author of this really helpful tutorial. I followed it last night and my daughter is now at school dressed as Little Red Riding Hood. She looks great.

Emma has enjoyed studying various versions of the Little Red Riding Hood story with her wonderful first grade teacher, and she has been telling me for weeks that she wants a Little Red Riding Hood costume for Halloween this year! This costume was an instant hit with Emma, and I especially love that it will double as a play outfit for these increasingly cold autumn days! How was your week? Are you making Halloween costumes for your kids this year? Little red riding hood outfit made for costume party Yeah. So that is a guy in the photo. He decided he wanted to wear it more than me. Hahaha he pulled it off pretty well to loool! I didn't have alot of time to make it so I needed something easy and cheap to make. It was a"R18" themed party so instead of going as a skanky nurse or dominatrix like some of the others I decided to be violence not nudity. I carried a decapitated wolf soft toy in my basket. Heh heh! Not had a chance to wear but hopefull they'll be another party soon.

Very much appreciated. Hi Ash If you buy extra fabric and reposition the hood to a separate piece, you can extend the side edges of the cape another ish inches. I just started working on a little red riding hood costume for the Armegeddon convention next year, but had NO IDEA how to make a hooded cape! Place one of the cape front pieces on it- so right sides are touching. Sincere thanks again Judy. Hi Joanne, The pattern is based on wide fabric 58 inches — the child pattern is smaller and will work with a smaller width — but not much smaller. I downloaded the pattern. I better get started on now…! I did finish all the edges off with my rolled hemmer on my serger. Thanks, Chyanne. Now that you have three sides sewn, turn the fabric right sides out, meaning now you can see the right sides and the wrong sides are hidden.
