Posted by Mike Meeple on April 03, Or maybe your fantasy awakening was caused when Bastion rode Falkor in Neverending Story, or maybe you thought the coolest moment ever was when Sir Orrin Neville Smythe fought Bryagh at the end of Flight of Dragons that, sir, is a deep cut , but whatever caused it, the end result was the same. If there was a quest, we wanted to go on it! The heroic deeds, slaying goblins, finding magical treasure to help you in your quest, it all sounded amazing! Unfortunately, not all of us are well equipped for questing I don't think this battle is going as planned

Darkness returns 10 years after the events of Massive Darkness. Take the fight to Hell itself. Massive Darkness 2 add light and dark tiles to the game, which can grant players specific bonuses,. There are not many spiritual themes to speak of beyond stereotypical use of demons. Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape is a dungeon-crawler through-and-through. There are tons of dice, tons of loot, and tons of baddies. The core game includes a tutorial and 10 scenarios for players to enjoy, 6 heroes, 62 bad guy miniatures, and a host of tokens and cards. To play, players choose a scenario, set up the game board, and pick characters. There are 4 phases of each round: hero phase, enemy phase, darkness phase, and level up phase. During the hero phase, players take 3 actions, usually moving, attacking, and interacting with an objective resting is for the weak. Loot abounds in Massive Darkness 2 , which is a good thing because as the scenario progresses, the bad guys get tougher, so players had better get tougher too! Massive Darkness 2 also does a great job of offering progressively better loot as the scenario goes on. All heroes benefit from the very powerful shadow dice if they attack from dark spaces. Each hero feels totally different from the other 5, and that alone adds to the replay value of the game because you can explore vastly different character combinations.
Minions will give a small amount of individual XP, while achieving quest goals and killing bosses, monsters, and agents give XP to the whole party.
So some years back I was looking for a HeroQuest style game to try out with the kids. Something that would sit on the line between dungeon crawl and board game. So I backed the game thinking that it might provide…. The components are good. The tiles are nice and thick, the cards are well illustrated, the minis are great. One complaint that came in as the kickstarter landed was that some of the minis had been presented as looking larger than they were.
Massive Darkness is one of the shining examples of the symbiosis of modern-day board games and Kickstarter. Dungeons are rife with both treasures and terrors — you never know what will be lurking around the next turn. Massive Darkness fills that niche nicely. Massive Darkness is a dungeon-crawl , cooperative board game with no game master. Explore the darkness for loot and experience, facing hordes of awesome miniatures. The components are extremely high-quality, the rules are straightforward, and the mechanics allow for variable player combinations and experience. So grab some friends, grab a table, and get ready for some good old sneaking and slashing. The game offers two play modes, a single-shot game, and an extended RPG-style campaign where your characters retain equipment and levels between games. The minions of the Darkness can be anything from orcs to goblin warriors, to giant spiders.

Otherwise, keep reading: you may be in for a bloodletting treat. But, as you might expect, it also draws from the likes of Descent though this is pure co-op and Super Dungeon Explore — albeit without the swollen-headed chibi stylings. There are no real surprises during the unboxing. Lavishly-illustrated modular tiles? Impressive minis? A cascade of multi-coloured dice? Numerous item, monster and event cards? Check, check, check. As in Black Plague, each player gets a nifty, card-couching plastic dashboard, complete with peg holes to track health and XP — though spending that XP requires a bit of old-school pencil-and-papering, as each class tanky Paladin of Fury, roguish Bloodmoon Nightrunner, DPS-flavoured Pit Fighter Berserker and so on comes with a box-checking sheet pad on which to mark your skill-up choices. Every character has special abilities that only trigger in the dark, as defined by the art on those beautifully-designed tiles.

Remember to Share, Comment, and Subscribe! Massive Darkness does not disappoint. Try to attack again. The plastic pieces are great, but the cardboard ones look just fine. For the defender, grab a number of blue or green dice that corresponds to the number next to their shield if they have one. It makes no sense! The greens? Despite there being an appropriately massive amount of components altogether the box weighs nearly 10lbs. I particularly like the chance to level my character immediately, in-between rounds.

One character breathes on people to kill them, while another is figuring out the exchange rate between Diamonds and Bams. The minis are well sculpted, and the character design has the same cartoony charm as the Zombicide games. There are a lot of moving parts to keep track of.
