As the eldest brother, Neteyam was expected to watch out for his younger siblings and their antics. As such, he often tried to take the blame when they get into trouble or helped get them out of dangerous situations. Cut Jake some slack here, but he's still doing what he does, which is he's compassionate with his wife and he's tough on his sons. He was getting to a better place. I do think it's true.
